Irish digital identity: what is live and what is next
Ireland is testing a Government Digital Wallet while organisations prepare for an EU framework whose production details are still developing.
This web edition is independent and does not contain sponsored placement.
Status change
Ireland's official Q&A describes the wallet as part of emerging digital public infrastructure linked to MyGovID. Treat the current programme as testing and consultation, not a finished national service.
Buyer question
Can an organisation start now? Yes: map use cases, minimum attributes, relying-party entities, fallback and vendor dependencies. Do not invent an Irish production registration process before it is published.
Evidence watch
Ask whether a provider capability is production, beta, pilot or roadmap—and which Irish entity, profile and credential the claim covers.
Sector lens
Financial services should separate customer due diligence from later authentication. A wallet may support both, but the evidence and control flow are different.
