Wallet Watch: Ireland and the EU, October 2026
A wallet app, a public launch and a certified EUDI wallet are different milestones. Our first Wallet Watch puts the Irish pilot beside the EU tracker, with the evidence dated and the gaps visible.
This web edition is independent and does not contain sponsored placement. It is general information, not legal, compliance or security advice.
Wallet Watch
Ireland: testing, with a wider launch still a target
Stage: invitation-only beta pilot. Builder: OGCIO. Access: verified MyGovID and a phased invitation. Public launch: planned for 2026, without an exact confirmed date. Article 5c certification: not publicly confirmed in the checked evidence.
The official campaign still calls this a closed pilot. MyGovID is an existing login service, not the EUDI wallet. The dated eIDAS table separates the legal baselines from Ireland’s delivery targets.
EU in five lines
- 2 of 27 states have a publicly usable national wallet in the tracker: Denmark and Italy. This is not a count of certified EUDI wallets.
- 2 have an evidenced beta milestone: Ireland and Italy. This overlaps the live count; it is not two additional states.
- 0 records reach the tracker’s certified stage. Missing public evidence does not establish that certification has failed.
- 6 have availability schedules after the EU baseline: Germany, Estonia, Finland, the Netherlands, Romania and Sweden.
- 6 have an unknown schedule comparison. These are evidence gaps, not missed deadlines. Counts use the tracker’s definitions and dated country records.
What changed since issue #09?
- Ireland: gov.ie’s organisation consultation responses collection is marked updated 9 October, after our 7 October baseline. That is a source-page update, not a wallet launch or new law.
- Country stages: the bounded official-source check found no confirmable stage change since 7 October across Ireland, Estonia, Denmark, Italy, Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands and Poland. Some primary pages could not be retrieved; alternative official sources were checked. This is not an exhaustive national audit.
- Commission: the pilot overview still reports two active projects and four concluded, as in #09. The checked rules and certification overview supplied no confirmable post-baseline change. Pilot activity does not establish production availability.

Dates to watch
24 Dec 2026: Member States must offer at least one EUDI wallet; the authentic-source verification baseline also applies. 24 Dec 2027: covered private relying parties must accept compliant wallets at the user’s voluntary request. The duty concerns services requiring strong user authentication by law or contract; microenterprises and small enterprises are excluded. See the dated legal table for scope.
